First Paid Commission - Soom Benmore

So I got my first official, paid commission this weekend at Anime Nebraskon!!!  So excited.  I am totally feeling confident now at opening my own face up, body blushing and minor modding shop.

The owner, wanted me to do a similar blushing that I did on the Soom Galena/Amber, except in green and gold.  She was very happy with how it turned out, which makes me happy!

Sushi - Dollzone Dale

My Dollzone Dale arrived this weekend.  She was so adorable!!  Originally, her name was to be Andraste, but when I pulled her out of the box and saw her for the first time, I called her My Little Sushi and so she was named Sushi.

For her look, I originally wanted her coloring to be reminiscent of a piece of salmon sushi.

But, I think she looks more like a koi.

Here are the in progress pictures:

And, here she is all put together.  :)

And here she is in the dress I sewed with her (boy, what a busy day :) I'm exhausted).

Bringing a Psychotic Water Nymph to Live - Update 3

Yaretzi is complete!!

I'll have to get images with her in the "dress" I made her when there is better lighting.  :)

I am so happy with the way she turned out.  She currently sitting in the bookshelf with her son, Olin.

Bringing a Psychotic Water Nymph to Life: Update 2

So, today I finished the airbrushing on the body parts and touched up the oopsie on the head and taped off where I want the scales to go on the head.  I just need to spray the entire body with the PearlEx Powder, that I mixed with the matte varnish.

On to the pictures.  :)

You can't really see the difference between the Olive Green and the Medium Yellow.  I ended up changing the Chromium Oxide Green to a different green as it did not look so pretty in the airbrush.  After a few coats of the Olive Green and the New Green, I mixed up Antique Gold Acrylic with distilled water and sprayed it on the scales.

It took a few coats to get the sheen I wanted, but I'm satisfied with how it turned out.  My plan is to cover the entire body with the PearlEx Powder/Matte Varnish mix to give an all over "sparkle"  :)

It took FOREVER ... well, it felt like forever, to peel the tape off and then to clean up the scales.

And here are pictures of the head.  The touch up came out way better than I could have hoped.  :)

Next week I hope to finish the body and start working on the head.

Bringing a Psychotic Water Nymph to Life: Update 1

So after posting the introduction to my latest Resin Project, I decided to go ahead and mix up the necessary paints I will need to do the scale pattern.

To match the head to the body, I mixed 1 part Persian Red (more pink than red) with 6 parts milky white (large bottle on the right of the second picture.  It's a little pinker than the body, but once all the blushing/painting is done, I don't think it will be too noticeable.  Besides, our faces get more sun than the rest of our bodies, generally speaking.

Then I mixed up the Medium Yellow for the base color of the scales, followed by Olive Green, second layer of color and Chrome Oxide Green for the darkest top layer of color.  The fourth bottle is the top coat for the scales. I missed Liquitex Matte Varnish with sparkle gold Pearlex Powder.  I'm not sure if this will actually work as the powder has settled to the bottom of the jar.  If it doesn't work, I may have to go in search of gold acrylic paint that I can thin down.  Otherwise I have iridescent paint that I used for the top coat on Olin to give him his ethereal sparkly appearance ... vampires don't sparkle but water nymphs do XD

Just and FYI - the squeeze bottle marked D. H20 is distilled water.  I use it to thin out the acrylic paint to the consistency of skim milk so I can use it in the air brush.  I'm still trying to get the thinness of the paint down to a consistency ... sometimes I still make it too think ... It's annoying, but a learning process.

Since I had the paint mixed and all the body parts taped off, I decided to do the first layer of color (yellow).  This was both fun, satisfying and annoying.  I learned somethings along the way as I painted that I hope will mean that the next layers of color won't be as infuriating.

Last note, before I show you the pictures - the medium yellow came out to be such a nice bright yellow.  I'm so glad I went with this color scheme.  I think it will accentuate Yaretzi's wig and eyes beautifully.  :)

Now on to the pictures.

I know you can't really see the yellow in the pictures and I took the pictures before I clean up the drops and other mess ... but in person is looks awesome!

I was going to put scales on the head to frame the face, but I didn't put enough sealant between coats and the tape pulled up the paint I layed down to match the body.  It was hard to get a picture of my oopsie ... but there it is ... *sigh*

So I need to fix that.

Stay posted.  Next weekend I hope to have pictures of the Olive Green layer and hopefully pictures of her face.  :)

And just for reference here is a picture of her wig and eyes.

I think I'm going to give her red lips to bring out the bit of red in her eyes.  I know there is a strong presence of blue in the eyes, but I went with green to to tie in with the wig which is a mixture of home spun yarn I purchased off of Etsy (here and here).

I also purchased the ribbon that I will be using to make Yaretzi's clothes.

The character doesn't actually wear clothes ... she's a water nymph after all, but I need the doll to wear something so I plan on making a toga or something out of these two ribbons. Sewing isn't my strong suit, so we'll see what I fashion ... more like throw together.

Yaretzi - Irreal Doll Ringo on Doll Chateau Body

Yaretzi came home about ... I want to say two years ago.  Her body, I purchased last year.  She is my psychotic water nymph XD.

She is an original character of mine.  Originally meant to be a sympathetic character, but somewhere along the way, as she became more fleshed out, I realized she was completely and utterly mad.  She suffers from dementia in spades - lol

Having a mad character isn't too terrible ... until you combine it with her very strong homicidal tendencies.

It is never a dull moment when Yaretzi is around.  Always plotting against Tlaloc ... their hatred towards each other is palpable.  Her husband is probably the only person capable of grounding Yaretzi in reality.

Anyway, I had planned on paying an artist to do her face up and body blushing, but I am short on funds for dolly related stuffs.  So, I decided since my parents kindly bought me an airbrush machine for my b-day last year, I should totally put it to use.

This is entry one into the Project Journal lovingly titled:  Bringing a Psychotic Water Nymph to Life.

:)

So first off, the inspirational images for Yaretzi's look:

Yaretzi's colors will be green, yellow and gold instead of blue, teal and copper.  heehee!

So first thing, first - Yaretzi'z head is more yellow than her body, which is more of a pale peachy-pink color.  So I had to mix some paint to get the right color to match head to body.  Then I taped off where I want her "scales" to go.

This is what I've done so far.

Today I plan on airbrushing the head to match the body.  I need to mix up the paint for the scales.  Airbrushing the scales may have to wait until next weekend, we'll see.

:)
